Don’t overshare online

Do you have all of your details online with social media, constantly check in on where you are and what you are doing? I know you love the modern age and social media but some things you should not share online, let us list a couple quick ones:

  1. Date of Birth – don’t put this on social media, it makes a hacker’s job so much easier
  2. Social media chain posts – Don’t answer posts that are being shared on social media and respond/comment on the ones that ask you to say the town you grew up in, what’s your mother’s maiden name? what was your first pets name? what was the first street you lived on? Do these sound familiar these are common secret questions that will let a malicious actor into your accounts. don’t answer them.
  3. Check in at places – although this doesn’t entirely relate to online safety it does let people know when you are not home and can allow them to secretly access your home or even your accounts as you won’t notice why you are on a plane for 5 hours.

There is more but you can see what we are trying to get at here – don’t make it too easy for them.
